Cheap Charlies Bar, Sukhumvit Soi 11 Bangkok
A must see in Bangkok is Cheap Charlies Bar, Sukhumvit Soi 11. This hole in the wall bar has been an institution for in Soi 11 for years. Actually, it’s just a little bit up the street from Sukhumvit Road, on your left in a little alley. The menu is basic beers and spirits, but the prices are rock bottom and this place is always a busy in the afternoons to late evening.
Many a teacher or expat will drop by here on a Friday evening before heading out to more fashionable and air conditioned places. (There’s Mexican, German, Italian and Thai all within walking distance.
There’s a great Indian on the corner that will bring out snacks on a plate as you eat by the roadside.
While you drink and chat, expect to say no to the occasion Indian selling trinkets or nuts (though they can be a great side dish to go with your drinks. You can also admire the eclectic collection of odds and ends including the large phallic shaped stools.
It is a great place to watch the day turn to evening and the tableau of life trickling up and down Sukhumvit road.
Despite visiting this bar many a time, I cannot find any of my own pictures of this place. Thus these pictures have come from
