An hour or so out of Melbourne, on the way to Ballarat, is a medieval castle called, Kryal Castle. A replica, of course, since Australia does not have a medieval history involving European castles. 🙂 But this replica castle is a lot of fun for kids and holidays.
You can wander around the various rooms and stables, and they also have a number of shows during the holidays such as; magic show, eagle show, a medieval whipping, jousting and knights battling.
Get lost in the maze, explore the horror of the dungeons, practise your archery on the range or relax in the coffee shop.
